C break Statement

You are Here:

C break Statement

The break statement terminates the current loop, or switch statement and transfers program control to the statement following the terminated statement.

break statement in for loop

In the following example program, we will break the for loop at the third iteration.

Source Code

C Compiler
#include <stdio.h> int main() { int i = 0; for(i=0; i<5; i++){ if(i == 3){ break; } printf("%d \n", i); } printf("Program Ends"); return 0; }

Output

0 1 2 Program Ends

break Statement in switch case

In the following example program, the break statement will immediately terminate the switch case statement once the corresponding block of code is executed.

Try the following example program by removing all break statement for better understanding.

Source Code

C Compiler
#include <stdio.h> int main() { int i = 0; switch(i){ case 0: printf("Zero \n"); break; case 1: printf("One \n"); break; default: printf("Default \n"); } printf("Program Ends"); return 0; }

Output

Zero Program Ends
