The jQuery index() method searches for a given element from among the matched elements.

Parameter Values
| Value | Type | Explanation |
|---|---|---|
| elem | Optional | Specifies the DOM element or first element within the jQuery object to look for. |
Return Values
| Value | Explanation |
|---|---|
| integer | Returns the position of the first element within the jQuery object.
Note: If the element is not found, index() will return -1.
